Event Summary What would Christmas be without a visit from Santa? About four weeks before Christmas, Richmond features its local Santa Claus Parade. This annual event brings merchants, community groups, churches and residents together with a common goal in mind: to create the best Christmas ever for our local young people and those young at heart.
Event Details
This past year, the Santa Clause parade consisted of over fifteen floats which started at South Carleton High School and ended at the Richmond Plaza. Despite the cold and wind, Santa arrived and waved from his perch high a top the last fire truck. Over a warm cup of hot chocolate and chili at the Richmond Plaza, Santa took time out from his busy schedule to meet with children and hear their Christmas wishes.
Also in keeping with the Christmas spirit, items for the Food Bank or money are collected along the parade route by our own Lions club for the local Christmas Baskets.
Looking to the Future With the help of our local Firefighters, police, the City of Ottawa and many volunteers, this activity will continue for many years, bringing the Christmas spirit to our village. Each year, we look to increase the number of floats, award prizes to float designers, collect even more items for the local Food Bank and we are always interested in feedback on how to make this annual event even better.
