Library service in Richmond started in 1971 when a community library board was formed to establish a library. In January 1972, the library was housed in South Carleton High School on a temporary basis. Richmond branch, opened in 1976, sits amid a grove of mature trees at the corner of Perth and Fortune streets. In November 1986, the newly expanded and renovated Richmond branch was officially opened. The addition of 1,700 sq. ft. and a brick exterior gave a whole new appearance to the building. The community of Richmond is a centre serving the surrounding rural community. There are a number of small retail stores, video outlets, medical and dental clinics, a large chain grocery store, banks, dry cleaners, restaurants and hairdressers. The Library serves a population of 5,190 with a seven-kilometre radius, and 2,095 in a two-kilometre radius.

We function as a bowling club, without dues, formal registration, newsletters, or prizes. Indeed we do not even have regular teams, rather we pick up teams each day when we see who and how many are present. Very relaxed and informal. We are always looking for new members.  We usually bowl on Fridays at 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.  Bowling experience or skill not required.  We look forward to meeting you!

The Richmond Agricultural Society was formed in 1841 as the Carleton County Agricultural Society. In 1895 the Fair moved its operation from Bell's Corners to "Goodwood Park" in Richmond. Since the Agricultural Society's first Fair in 1844, the fall festival has been an opportunity for families to enjoy viewing the best of their neighbour's kitchens, crops, livestock, and machinery. In early years Agricultural Societies pooled resources to improve breeds, to purchase specialized machinery, and to provide a place for the sale of products from the kitchens, gardens, dairy and poultry of members. This cooperative spirit still exists.
