Richmond Beautification Projects

Project Summary
It is the attention to detail that makes a difference in our small community.  In Richmond we show pride for our village and all that it means to its inhabitants.  The ongoing beautification of Richmond is just one way in which that pride and attention is evident to all our visitors.  From the various flags suspended from lampposts to the hanging displays of flowers, everyone is able to appreciate the seasonal village adornments.

Project History
The beautification endeavour began as a millenium project for the village as one way to start the new century off displaying Richmond’s “Proud Past” and “Bright Future”.  That first year, thanks to many local businesses and residents who donated funds, a few flower baskets were suspended along Perth Rd. lampposts for the summer months. Without the generosity of our local Lalonde Nursery who undertook the duties of watering these plants all summer we would not have been able to continue again the following year.

Richmond Beautification has since grown over the past four years to where there are now twenty-five Canadian flags on display along Perth Rd. and McBean St. as well as thirty suspended flower displays for the summer months. As the season changes to winter, the Canadian flags are replaced with winter banners.

Future Aspirations
Every year, the RVA looks for additional ways in which to preserve and enhance the beauty of Richmond. One goal is to have varying flags and banners for each season and to continue to increase the number displayed each year around the village.  Another goal is to increase the number of suspended flower baskets on display each summer to also cover a greater area within Richmond. Also, each year the RVA looks for feedback on other methods to continue to beautify the village and with the generous support of our sponsors we will continue to be able to do so.
