Transit:
Pat Scrimgeour presented the latest plans for rural transit.
- On April 24, council approved version of proposal that provides increased bus service to Richmond. All day service to be provided. Operational costs covered by 50/50 (tax/fare). Para Trans at 80/20.
-Pat suggested a period of 4 months will reveal if current routes and timing of runs are sustainable.
-concern raised over the limited number of stops the bus makes in the village and the time it takes to walk to bus stops. Pat responded that more bus stops in village would mean fewer trips into city and higher cost.
-concern raised about convenience of commuter bus stopping at Fallowfield Stn, when some see Kanata as a more convenient destination . Pat responded that Fallowfield isn't seen as a destination, rather a rendezvous point for other destinations in the city.
- concern raised about whether new bus service is viable, sustainable, and would taxes lower if Richmond cannot sustain new bus services? Pat responded that they most likely would and suggested that zone boudaries would change if service cannot sustain.
